Wasn't aware of that, but honestly, probably for the better. While the museum itself was fine, the whole dog fighting thing seemed rather cruel.

@@WizardOfOss just planning my visit to Kochi next month (the last prefecture to cross out on my list). Kinda disappointed they don't have the museum anymore.

@@canterburyjhiguma8387 , that's a bummer then, but I think the Katsurahama area is still worth visiting. And along the way you can also visit Godaisan, with Chikurinji temple and also a botanical garden that apparently is pretty impressive (I've only been to the temple though). Other things worth visiting in Kochi are obviously the castle and the Hirome Ichiba market (which is more of a food court. There's also a museum about the Yosakoi festival, but that was closed when I was there. And a bit more bizarre, figure manufacturer Kaiyodo has a pretty spectecular looking museum "Space Factory". And if you happen to be there around May 3rd, you might want to consider also visiting Uwajima for their Bull Sumo! I did visit that years ago, pretty unique experience and to me it felt a lot less problematic than the dog fighting. I'll be visiting Shikoku in a few weeks, though this time only the northern part. Will check off two prefectures I haven't been yet (Wakayama and Tokushima), after that I only need Shimane, Tottori and Miyazaki. Japan is an addiction 🙂

@@WizardOfOss just been to Shikoku last week. Did Kochi & Ehime, my 45th and 46th prefectures of Japan. The Tosa Inu museum has been completely changed, refurbished, re-painted. It is a restaurant now, Kaze-No-Mune, part of the new Umi-No--Terrace visitors' complex at Katsurahama beach. Not a single trace of Tosa Inu museum. I was quick to visit the Onagadori centre in Nankoku/Nangoku. I fear, for a number of reasons, that this one will be gone soon too.

Absolutely, this is more about gambling than an actual sport. Most people there don't even go out to watch the race, they only care about the result. And there are also quite a few rules in place to prevent match fixing, as in the past the yakuza had a big hand in this.

The bikes are just purpose built for an oval track, made to turn left constantly. Not unlike Late Model dirt cars in the US. The idea is to always be right on the edge of laying the bike down, while also keeping the tightest line. Basically, whoever can brake the latest and accelerate the hardest but also keep the furthest inside wins

I think he actually won the race, with the finish at 2:37? Remember these bikes don't have brakes, so when it's over they just get off the throttle and keep on rollin' to slow down.

It's a rather smooth ride......most things North Korean aren't.
